The origin of musk is rooted in Indian mythology, which tells of the demon Pulaka, who, after enduring a long punishment in the form of an antelope, obtained Shiva's mercy in the form of the ability to diffuse a very intense fragrance. From that moment on, thanks to his marvelous and powerful scent, Pulaka was able to seduce the goddesses, breaking religious and moral rules in the process. Shiva then ordered Pulaka to abandon his demonic body, while allowing him to retain its musky fragrance. The name "Musk" comes from the Sanskrit "mrgamada," which means "antelope's love secretion."
